Over the years we’ve seen retailers come and go at Southgate. Did you know in 1955 JC Penny was the first store to open at Southgate? Yes! and this was the beginning of what became to be one of the largest outdoor shopping centers in the United States. There were stores such as Woolworth’s, May Company, and Hough Bakery who’d made a home at Southgate USA.

Do you remember the Santa Button from Southgate USA?, or the annual holiday parade that featured  local dignitaries, high school bands, and civic groups. Ted Knight, Tim Conway, Halle Berry, Big Chuck and Little John? While some retailers are leaving, new retailers are taking up residence such as Foreman Mills, the re-opening of Southgate Lanes, and Fancy Nails to name a few.

The closing of Sally Beauty Supply comes as a surprise to many customers in the area. With apartment living close by many customers visit Southgate because it is in walking distance. Those who are regular visitors to Sally Beauty Supply will have to travel further for their beauty supply needs.
