The Bedford municipal pool is welcoming summer visitors with exciting new enhancements and a renewed focus on community enjoyment. Mike Callahan, Director of Parks & Recreation, shared that last year’s upgraded filter plumbing has significantly improved the pool’s efficiency, and this year’s aesthetic adjustments have further elevated the pool’s appeal.

Residents have responded positively to the new check-in process, featuring an airy breezeway and two check-in windows, which has improved guest flow and overall experience. The revamped process has been especially appreciated during recent heatwaves, which brought significant crowds to the pool. It is also important for residents to note the new admissions policy effective as of 6/27/2024, which can be found here.

Safety measures have been strengthened with the installation of new security cameras, and plans are in place to expand coverage using additional county funds. “The City and the Parks and Recreation Department are thrilled to have the pool fully operational, fully staffed, and with a wide range of programs,” said Callahan. “We emphasize safety and security and encourage everyone to come and enjoy.”

The Parks & Recreation Department is offering a variety of programs, including an adult swim from 12 PM to 1 PM, a summer swim team currently with 28 enthusiastic kids, and highly popular learn-to-swim classes that quickly reached capacity, prompting the addition of another time slot.

Staffing is robust, with the department covering the cost of lifeguard training. Currently, seven candidates are preparing to join the team, ensuring the pool remains a safe and enjoyable environment for all visitors.

Residents are excited about the changes, and feedback can be submitted via the Parks & Recreation website. As the summer continues, the Bedford community can look forward to enjoying their upgraded pool facilities, with a focus on safety, affordability, and fun.
