Spring is a great time to clear out old electronics and safely dispose of hazardous household items. As announced in the March 2025 City of Bedford Newsletter, Bedford residents are encouraged to participate in two upcoming collection events at the Service Garage, located at 100 Solon Road.

Computer Round-up

From April 14–18 and April 21–25, residents can drop off outdated or unused electronics Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Accepted items include CPUs, monitors, keyboards, tablets, software, and cell phones. Please note: no after-hours drop-offs will be accepted. This collection is for Bedford residents only—no business waste is permitted.

Household Hazardous Waste Round-up

During the same dates and hours—April 14–18 and April 21–25, 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.**—residents can also dispose of various household hazardous waste materials. Items accepted include:

  • Paint-related products: sealers, primers, varnishes, polyurethanes, shellacs
  • Solvents: paint thinner, mineral spirits, turpentine
  • Lawn and garden chemicals: pesticides, herbicides, fungicides
  • Household cleaners: caustic or chemical-based
  • Automotive: motor oil, car batteries, fluids
  • Other: adhesives, roof tar, driveway sealer, kerosene, gasoline, lighter fluid, and mercury

Important: Compact or tube fluorescent bulbs (CFLs) are not accepted. Latex paint is also not accepted—instead, dry out latex paint completely with a drying agent, then place it in your regular trash with the lid removed.

These events are an excellent opportunity to declutter responsibly while protecting the environment.
