A brand-new race is making its debut in Independence this summer. The Embrace the Pace 5K will take place Saturday, August 23 at 9:00 a.m. at Liberty Playground, located at 6363 Selig Blvd. This inclusive event will feature a 5K race, a one-mile run/walk/roll, and a kids’ race designed for participants of all abilities.
The $35 registration fee for the 5K and one-mile events includes a commemorative T-shirt, drawstring bag, and a donation to help fund new adaptive playground equipment for the city. Proceeds will also benefit Connecting for Kids, a nonprofit providing free programs and resources for families in Cuyahoga and Lorain counties. All participants will receive a finisher medal, and the top male and female runners in each age group will win a Fat Head’s growler and a $20 gift card.

The kids’ race is open to all ages and abilities, including those using wheelchairs, walkers, or other mobility aids. Entry is $15 with a T-shirt or $5 without.
After the races, participants and community members are invited to an inclusive dance party featuring free hot dogs provided by the Autism Society of Greater Cleveland. The event will also include resource tables, free kinesiology taping, and a mobile sensory unit.
