Bedford’s streets are getting a fresh new look thanks to a creative project that turns ordinary electrical boxes into works of art. The initiative, funded through a grant secured by Matchgirl Productions, is one of the latest arts projects in Bedford and adds vibrancy to everyday spaces.
The first set of wraps showcases artwork from the Bedford Historical Society, blending history and creativity in a way that reflects the community’s character. The newly wrapped boxes can be found at several key locations: Five Points (Broadway, Center, Columbus); Union, Broadway, and William; and Rockside across from Zak’s Supercenter.
The project is already expanding. Mayor Koci confirmed that the next wraps will be installed at the Bedford High School entrance on Columbus, Center at E. Grace, and Rockside at Broadway. He also clarified that not all electrical boxes in the city are under municipal control; those owned by the utility company are not eligible for the wrap program. A committee meeting held last month set the stage for these additions, with the goal of continuing to bring more art into public spaces across the city.
This effort is part of a broader vision to make public art more visible across Bedford. Recent examples include the new mural on the side of Spirit Apotheosis on Broadway, the Underground Railroad mural across from the post office, and the colorful bike and flowers mural behind Broadway Cyclery. Together, these projects underscore the community’s growing commitment to public art and neighborhood pride.
