CLEVELAND, OH — Cleveland’s own Jul Big Green has officially won acclaimed producer Kato’s Hot Takes Tournament, a seven-week competition that drew more than 2,000 song submissions from artists nationwide.
The winning track was Jul’s brand-new single, Hometown Love — a feel-good anthem celebrating his roots. The music video, filmed in his hometown of Bedford and downtown Cleveland, showcases local pride while carrying a message that resonates far beyond Northeast Ohio. Jul explained that the song is meant to help anyone connect with the love they feel for their own hometown.
The Competition
The contest, hosted by Kato (renowned for his work with Joyner Lucas, B.o.B., Dizzy Wright, and more), narrowed entries down to a Top 16 before culminating in a live final battle streamed to thousands of viewers across multiple social media platforms. While fans voted, Kato made the final decision, choosing Hometown Love for its infectious energy and uplifting message.
Prizes Awarded
As the winner, Jul Big Green received more than $15,000 in prizes, including:
- One-on-one mentorship with Kato
- Complimentary professional mixing of upcoming music
- A cash award, plus additional opportunities for artistic development
Following the win, Jul joined Kato on a livestream to give feedback to other artists, where their shared passion for music shined.
