Since 2011, Bedford’s community garden behind Central School on Washington Street has provided residents with a shared space to grow fresh vegetables, herbs, flowers, and friendships.
Interested in joining? Contact Lisa at 216-548-1175 for details.
The garden includes more than 30 individual plots tended by gardeners of all experience levels. Some participants are longtime growers with years of knowledge to share, while others are simply looking to try gardening for the first time. Throughout the season, members often exchange planting advice, gardening tips, and stories while working side-by-side in the garden.
In addition to the garden plots themselves, the site includes helpful amenities such as access to water and an on-site shed to support gardeners throughout the growing season. The space has become more than just a place to plant crops — it has grown into a small community gathering spot where neighbors can connect while enjoying the outdoors.
Community gardens continue to grow in popularity because of the many benefits they offer. Gardening encourages physical activity, provides access to fresh produce, and can help reduce stress while beautifying the neighborhood. For many gardeners, the experience is just as much about community as it is about the harvest.
As another growing season begins, Bedford residents interested in gardening are encouraged to learn more about joining the community garden and reserving a plot. Just call as noted above. Whether someone hopes to grow tomatoes, herbs, colorful flowers, or simply meet fellow gardeners, the Bedford community garden offers a welcoming place to dig in and grow together.
