Bedford’s annual Memorial Day Parade will return on Monday, May 25, continuing a long-standing community tradition honoring the men and women who gave their lives in service to the United States.
The parade will begin at 10:15 a.m. at Bedford City Hall, located at 165 Center Rd., before proceeding to Bedford Commons for the raising of the flag and the decoration of the war memorials. Following those ceremonies, the parade will continue down Broadway to Bedford Cemetery, where the program will include a featured speaker, recognition of deceased service members, and a flag folding ceremony. All veterans are encouraged to walk in the parade.
This year’s speaker will be Greg White, a Vietnam veteran and highly decorated Marine from the 9th Regiment. White entered the Marines at 18 years old on a two-year enlistment and was discharged at age 19. During his service, he received the Silver Star, Bronze Star with a “V” for Valor, and the Navy Commendation Medal with a “V” for Valor.
In addition to his military service, White later served as a County Prosecutor and Federal Magistrate. He was nominated by President George W. Bush to serve as the U.S. District Attorney for Northern Ohio from 2003 through 2008.
White was inducted into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame in 2021 and the Ohio Military Hall of Fame in 2024.
The annual Memorial Day Parade is sponsored by the Bedford Veterans Memorial Day Parade Committee and remains one of the city’s most visible opportunities each year for residents to gather in remembrance and gratitude.
