The City of Bedford will conclude its Liberty Days celebration on Sunday, July 12, with the Elmer Flick Baseball Classic, a day of baseball, family activities and community events honoring one of Bedford’s most accomplished native sons.

The event will take place at the Ellenwood Center, 124 Ellenwood Ave., with activities beginning at noon and continuing throughout the day.

The day’s schedule includes the National Anthem performed by the Burning River Boys Barbershop Quartet, old-time baseball, youth baseball games, free fresh popcorn, free snow cones, food vendors and a City of Bedford employee charity softball game benefiting Bedford Meals on Wheels.

The event honors Elmer Flick, a Bedford native who played Major League Baseball from 1898 to 1910 with the Philadelphia Phillies, Philadelphia Athletics and the Cleveland Bronchos/Naps. According to the City of Bedford’s America 250 Commemorative Event Guide, Flick was one of the top hitters of baseball’s Dead Ball Era and was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1963.

The Elmer Flick Baseball Classic serves as the final event of Bedford’s three-day Liberty Days celebration, which is being held as part of the city’s participation in America 250, commemorating the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States.

Residents and visitors are invited to enjoy an afternoon of baseball, community activities and family fun while celebrating the legacy of one of Bedford’s most notable athletes.
