Plans are taking shape for Lake Effect Market, a community-powered market being built for downtown Bedford that would bring together fresh food, locally made goods, vendors, educational opportunities and community gathering space.
Lake Effect Market is a project of the Lake Erie Institute, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Organizers describe the developing project as a place for fresh food, local goods, makers, vendors, classes and community connection.

As planning continues, organizers are inviting Bedford-area residents and supporters to become involved in the early stages of the project. Community members can become a Founder, make a donation, complete a survey, join the project’s email list or learn more about the plans.
Lake Effect Market is also looking to hear from local producers interested in being part of the developing market. The outreach includes farmers, artists, bakers, growers, food producers, craftspeople, herbalists, potters, woodworkers, textile artists, florists, jewelers, designers and foragers, as well as others producing goods locally.
Potential producers are encouraged to share information about what they grow, make, bake or create. Organizers say the goal is to build a market shaped by local food, original work, independent producers and the people who support them.
