As reported by WKYC Studios, a Heskett Middle School teacher received an unexpected back-to-school surprise aimed at recognizing her dedication to students and helping offset the personal cost of providing supplies.
Physical education and health teacher Stephanie Moisio was surprised by Meijer with $2,000 after being nominated by fellow teachers and administrators who believed she was especially deserving of the recognition.
The gift comes as educators across the country return to classrooms and face the expense of purchasing supplies, sometimes using their own money to provide items their students need.
Moisio, who has been an educator for 27 years, has regularly used her own money to purchase hygiene products for students at Heskett Middle School. Her colleagues also highlighted her commitment to the school community while facing significant challenges in her own life.
During her time as an educator, Moisio has experienced two separate bouts of breast cancer. She was relatively new to the Bedford City School District when she received her first diagnosis but continued to remain dedicated to her students and school community throughout her treatment and recovery.
The surprise presentation was an emotional moment for Moisio, who was visibly moved when she learned about the $2,000 gift.
The recognition highlights both Moisio’s longtime commitment to education and the often-unseen personal contributions teachers make to ensure students have the supplies and support they need to succeed.
