OAKWOOD VILLAGE, Ohio — As reported by Cleveland 19 News, after four decades serving the community, Oakwood Village Hardware and Supply has permanently closed its doors. The family-owned business, established in 1986, officially closed September 30, with liquidation of its remaining inventory now underway.

Owner David Stone said rising operating costs, increased competition and the store’s limited online presence contributed to the difficult decision. Despite its longstanding reputation for customer service, the business struggled to adapt to changes in the retail industry.

The store was originally built by Stone’s grandfather in 1986, before much of the surrounding area was developed. Over the years, it became known as a place where customers could find hard-to-locate hardware supplies and receive personalized assistance.

Stone emphasized that the business had always prioritized relationships with customers and maintaining a welcoming atmosphere. Regular customers echoed those sentiments, recalling the attentive service that distinguished the store from larger retailers.

However, mounting monthly expenses eventually depleted the store’s financial reserves, making continued operations unsustainable.

According to Stone, the property is held in a family trust and will be turned over to PNC Bank rather than demolished.

The business is now liquidating hundreds of thousands of dollars in remaining inventory. Community members interested in purchasing items can register through LocalAuctions.com.

Purchases can be picked up at the former store location during designated Friday and Saturday pickup periods.

The closure marks the end of a longtime family business that served generations of Oakwood Village residents and neighboring communities.
