April 22, 2020 marks the 50th anniversary of the first Earth Day. While celebrations honoring this pivotal event in our nation’s environmental history have happened every year, this year looks a little different.
With school closures, social distancing and limited public gatherings, the annual festivals and celebrations in honor of our environment are on-hold or have been canceled. Happily, many people are still able to go outside and celebrate nature.
The Cuyahoga County Solid Waste District suggests some ways to celebrate Earth Day. Each of us can make a difference by taking time to tidy a local park or neighborhood, start a compost pile, share some waste reduction tips with family or refresh your knowledge of how to recycle right.
Recycling is as important as ever, especially when it comes to recycling paper and boxes. Recycling supports the paper mills that use recycled fiber to make boxes for Amazon and other mail order companies. Residents can get tips on proper paper recycling at www.cuyahogarecycles.org/paper_and_boxes.
