Denny and Genevieve (Kennedy) Nick will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary this year on Oct. 7, and Bedford was the setting when they first tied the knot those many years ago.
The Nicks were each raised outside of Cleveland and after a two-year courtship, were married in town in 1950. The Nicks attribute their long-lasting, loving union to the values and mutual respect shared for one another, daily laughter and a commitment to being patient.
Denny honorably served his country in the US Army, 26th Field Artillery Battalion, at Schwabach, Germany. In fact, the Nick’s first daughter, Diana Nick Barfield (Walter Barfield), was born in Germany. The family returned to the US in 1956, and in July of 1957, made their home in Fort Lauderdale, where they welcomed their second daughter Laura Nick Kaufman (Blair Kaufman).
Denny retired after 21 years of work for The Prudential Insurance Company of America. Jenny also retired from work as a title clerk and tag agent with local Fort Lauderdale automobile dealerships.
An avid fisherman, Denny fished and skied the waters off Florida’s east coast and the Keys for years with his wife and daughters. Jenny hosted neighborhood potluck dinners while lovingly supporting her family and community.
In 2015 the couple relocated from their family home of 58 years to Albemarle County, Virginia to be a part of daily lives of their daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The Nicks are loving grandparents to Julia Wegman and Kathryn Wegman Vasil (David Vasil), and are adored by their four great grandchildren Emily (11), Logan (10), Denny (8), and Claire (7), all of whom live in the greater Charlottesville area. Laura and Blair who visit frequently, live close by in Weaverville, NC. Congratulatory wishes can be mailed to 7584 Gordonsville Road, Gordonsville, VA 22942.
