I’m always on the lookout for fun outdoor activities to enjoy with my children, especially in November. While the weather starts to chill, there’s still plenty of adventure to be had in our beautiful town.

One of our favorite November outdoor activities is leaf peeping. Bedford boasts some picturesque parks and nature trails that come alive with the vibrant hues of autumn foliage during this time of year. It’s like walking through a living painting. We gather our warm jackets and set out on hikes through local parks like Bedford Reservation or Tinker’s Creek Gorge Scenic Overlook. The kids love collecting the most colorful leaves they can find, creating their own mini art projects when we get home.

Another delightful November pastime is bird watching. As the migratory season reaches its peak, our local bird populations are in flux. We often pack a pair of binoculars and bird guidebooks and head to places like Shawnee Park or the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. It’s amazing to witness the diverse bird species passing through or making a temporary home in our area. The kids are always fascinated by the sights and sounds of our feathered friends.

For a bit of excitement, we love exploring the changing world of geocaching in November. Bedford and its surroundings have numerous hidden treasures waiting to be discovered. Armed with a GPS device or smartphone, we embark on treasure hunts, solving clues, and searching for geocaches hidden in clever spots. It’s a modern-day treasure hunt that keeps the whole family engaged and excited.

Lastly, November is an excellent time for stargazing. The crisp fall evenings in Bedford offer clear skies, making it perfect for introducing the kids to the wonders of the night sky. We lay out blankets, sip on hot cocoa, and gaze up at the stars. I secretly love sharing stories of constellations and planets, sparking their curiosity about the universe.

So, in November, as the days grow shorter and the temperatures drop, there’s no shortage of outdoor adventures to enjoy with your kids in Bedford. Whether you’re exploring the beauty of autumn leaves, birdwatching, geocaching, or stargazing, the opportunities for family fun are endless.
