BEDFORD HEIGHTS, OH — As reported by Justin Dennis with Fox 8 News, a fire at a high-rise building on Northfield Road in Bedford Heights, Ohio, has been determined to be an arson, according to the Ohio State Fire Marshal. The blaze occurred early Tuesday, Nov. 5, when Bedford Heights firefighters responded to a fire alarm just after 1 a.m. at a four-story commercial building located at 5311 Northfield Road.
Upon arrival, firefighters observed flames coming from a first-floor window. Though the building primarily serves commercial purposes, multiple individuals, including children, were reportedly living in office units in the basement. All occupants were safely evacuated, and Maple Heights firefighters assisted in the rescue of several children from one of the basement units.
Surveillance footage captured two individuals wearing masks, hoods, and gloves entering the building near the location where the fire started. One of the suspects appeared to be carrying lighter fluid, suggesting premeditated arson. The suspects quickly exited the building after starting the fire.
Authorities are offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those involved. The Ohio Fire Marshal encourages anyone with information to call their tip line at 1-800-589-2728.
