Allows Local Families to Find Help for Anxiety, Depression, Behavioral Problems, Academic Struggles, Developmental Delays or Disabilities

HIGHLAND HILLS, OH — The Eastern Cuyahoga County Resource Fair on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C) Eastern Campus Student Services Building, 4250 Richmond Road, Highland Hills, provides local resources for those 0-22 years who are experiencing anxiety, depression, behavioral problems, academic struggles, developmental delays or disabilities. This is one of the largest resource fairs offered in Northeast Ohio.

According to a Health Policy Institute of Ohio December 2024 study, approximately one in four children, ages 3-17, across the country reported one or more mental, emotional, developmental or behavioral problems in 2021 and 2022.  In Ohio, that same study reports that a fifth (20%) of middle school students and a third (33%) of high school students in 2023 reported that their mental health was not good most or all of the time.

With more than 70 providers, the free Eastern Cuyahoga County Resource Fair offers a number of options for families looking for help. To register, visit https://www.connectingforkids.org/east-cuyahoga-fair or call/text: 440-570-5908.

Families who pre-register and attend the in-person event will be entered to win a $100 Amazon gift card. In addition, the first 100 families who stop by the Connecting for Kids table at the fair will receive a free stuffed animal courtesy of Wild Republic with a disability awareness pin and bookmark. Those who have limited time can drive up to the tent in front of the Tri-C Eastern Campus Student Services Building during fair hours to receive a grab & go bag of resources.

The process of finding help for a struggling child can be overwhelming. Parents and caregivers may not know where to start or what resources they need, so Connecting for Kids will have a table at the entrance of the fair staffed by those who can answer questions, narrow down options and point them in the right direction of the service providers that can help. There will also be a quiet/sensory area that will allow caregivers to take a break, if needed.

Attending a resource fair will actually save time for families in the long run. Rather than having to scour the internet or spend hours making phone calls, the resource fair offers a one-stop shop. Attendees can discuss insurance, services provided and explore program options directly with the provider. Having face-to-face conversations allows families to assess whether a provider is a good fit.

At the fair, families will find help for:

  • Mental Health Concerns – A report by the Annie E. Casey Foundation found that nearly 1 in 8 Ohio kids received a diagnosis of anxiety or depression in 2020, up 42% from 2016 — the 10th-highest increase nationwide. The fair will provide mental health and behavioral health providers.
  • Academic Issues – For students who are struggling, families can find tutors, academic programs, alternative schools and educational advocates.
  • Disabilities & Developmental Delays – Find occupational, physical, speech and music therapists. Also represented will be adapted camps, sports, recreational programs and transition services. Presented in partnership with The Rotary Club of Cleveland. Platinum sponsors of the event include Community Fund Ohio, Cuyahoga Community College, Cuyahoga County Public Library and New Heights ABA.

Other resource fairs offered by Connecting for Kids this spring include:

BEDFORD, OH — Over $215,000 was raised last week to help support the residents and community of Light of Hearts Villa, a Bedford-based nonprofit senior living facility, celebrating its milestone 35th anniversary at their Light the Way Gala. The event brought together 350 guests on September 27, 2024 to support the Villa’s highly regarded, faith-based, compassionate care provided for older adults.

Supporting Residents and the Community

A ministry of the Sisters of Charity Health System, Light of Hearts Villa was established in 1989 to offer a continuum of care to meet the spiritual, physical, and emotional needs of residents, with a special focus on ensuring dignity and respect for all. Deeply rooted in the mission of the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine, the Villa has been a sanctuary for hundreds of seniors in need of assisted living and memory care services.

A Legacy of Compassionate Care Since 1989

Light of Hearts Villa’s mission to provide compassionate care has remained unwavering for 35 years. As part of its faith-based services, the organization strives to ensure the dignity and well-being of all residents, continuing to serve as a safe and nurturing environment for older adults.

Benevolent Fund and Vincentian Pathways Project

Over $205,000 of the total raised will benefit the Light of Hearts Villa Benevolent Fund, providing financial assistance to residents who have outlived their resources. Additionally, $10,000 will support the Vincentian Pathways restoration project, helping restore the historic grounds and gardens in honor of the Sisters who began the Villa’s mission of compassionate care.

Restoring the Sacred Grounds in Honor of the Sisters

A new initiative, the Vincentian Pathways project will enhance the Villa’s serene spaces integral to the tranquil environment, offering places for reflection, prayer, and connection to nature. The funds will help restore walking paths, gardens, and outdoor areas that honor the legacy of the Sisters, whose vision for compassionate care laid the foundation for the Villa. The project ensures that future generations will continue to experience the beauty and peace of these sacred spaces, keeping the spirit of the Sisters alive for years to come.

Honoring Beloved Leaders: Sister Regina Kusnir and Sister Helen Scasny

The Light the Way Gala was filled with heartfelt moments and highlights as two of the Villa’s most beloved figures were honored for their enduring impact. Sister Regina Kusnir, a Sister of Charity of Cincinnati, was presented with the honor of having the Villa’s exquisite chapel named after her, recognizing her spiritual leadership and unwavering dedication to the mission.

Sister Helen Scasny, SC, the founding Executive Director of Light of Hearts Villa, received the prestigious Radiant Heart Award for her tireless service and generosity that has shaped the organization’s legacy.

Catherine O’Hara Presents Radiant Heart Award

Sister Helen’s award was presented virtually by a family friend connection, actress Catherine O’Hara, well known for many roles, including that of the mother in the Home Alone movies. O’Hara expressed her gratitude and admiration, saying she was deeply honored to take part in such a special celebration of Sister Helen’s work and the Villa’s mission.

Continuing the Mission of Compassionate Care

“We are so grateful for the outpouring of love and support from our community,” said Breanne Cavileer, Executive Director of Light of Hearts Villa. “This incredible generosity allows us to continue providing compassionate care to our residents and to honor the legacy of the Sisters who started this work. The funds raised for the Vincentian Pathways project will ensure that the sacred grounds from the former Motherhouse will be restored and remain a source of peace and inspiration for generations to come.”

The Light the Way Gala was a night of celebration, community, and generosity—one that reflects the ongoing commitment to the legacy of Light of Hearts Villa and its bright future ahead.

Forever Friends Foundation — Our Goal is to Save Lives

Forever Friends Foundation is an all volunteer, no-kill animal rescue group that rescues abandoned, abused, and homeless animals. The Foundation was founded in September 2003 and is a 100% volunteer-based 501(c)3, non-profit rescue. In its first year, the Foundation rescued and placed 58 cats, kittens, dogs and puppies in only the first three months. Since that time, placement of over 7,800 animals into loving, caring, forever homes has taken place. Primarily, we focus our efforts on homeless cats and kittens. Our intake capability is dependent on the number of foster homes we have available. We try to help and accommodate everyone!

While in foster care, animals are cared for medically and placed for adoption at many local pet stores and facilities – Petco and PetSmart, Macedonia (adoption events and viewing of the cats are every Saturday and Sunday 1-4 PM) or PetSmart/Parma. The numbers from one of our adoption partners posted for 2023, 428 pets were listed and 312 pets were adopted. Pretty amazing! The Foundation has some amazing foster families that give their time, expertise and homes to many cats each and every year. Home care is important to the animals as it creates socialization skills and love that was lacking in their lives with the hope of finding each pet a loving forever home. At any given time, the Foundation has 100 or more animals relying on the volunteers to provide them with food, litter, safety and medical care and lots of love and safety! The animals remain in foster care until they are ready to be placed up for adoption. Adoptions occur either directly from the foster home or from one of our three adoption centers: Petco and PetSmart, Macedonia (adoption events and viewing of the cats are every Saturday and Sunday 1-4 PM) or PetSmart/Parma. Every cat adopted is fully vetted including spay/neutering, de-worming, flea treatment if needed and routine vaccinations. When we have fosters available to take dogs, rabbits and guinea pigs, we happily rescue them as well. We work closely with local animal wardens to ensure that we save and re-home as many animals as possible.

Forever Friends Foundation (FFF) relies solely on donations, fundraisers, and adoption fees to support its work in animal rescue.  The Foundation is run by a Board of Directors which meets periodically to conduct Foundation business. We are always looking for new members to volunteer their time and energy to our cause.  We need cleaners, adoption counselors, and foster homes.  We can also use pet store gift cards and cash donations.  Please consider getting involved by volunteering or donating. Forever Friends Foundation seeks to reduce the unwanted pet population through spay and neuter programs and adoptions. Therefore, we rely on the generosity of our donors and fundraising events to be able to continue our rescue efforts. A Parking Lot sale with over 10,000 items will be July 18, 19, 20 at the Church of Christ parking lot, 7166 Dunham Road, Walton Hills, Ohio.

Visit our website www.foreverfriendsfoundation.org to see our available furrbabies or to donate or to fill out a form to volunteer! If looking to find a furrbaby to adopt, also use www.petfinder.com . You never know when you’ll find your new best friend!
