Five candidates seeking three at-large positions on the Bedford Board of Education will take part in a voter forum on Wednesday, Sept. 29, at Bedford High School.
The forum, featuring candidates Anthony A. Akins, Sr., Brandon Lipford, Sharyn Macklin, Joseph V. Mestnik, and Danielle M. Turner-Birch, will be held at Bedford High School, located at 481 Northfield Road.
Candidates and voters will gather in the BHS NLGI (North Large Group Instruction Room). Participants may use the north parking lot or the Northfield Road lot and enter through the north door or the north front door.
The area will be available for the public to gather from 7:00 to 7:30 p.m., and the forum itself will run from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. The session will begin with brief opening statements from the candidates, followed by a question-and-answer period.Â
The Q&A period will follow practices used by the League of Women Voters of Greater Cleveland. Attendees will write questions on index cards. Screeners will then consolidate and organize the questions, and the questions will be posed by a moderator.
Campaigning and campaign materials will not be permitted in the room used for the forum, but forms for voter registration, vote-by-mail and LWV membership will be available.
The Sept. 29 forum follows a Sept. 22 forum with Bedford Heights City Council candidates. Both forums are sponsored by the Southeast Chapter of the League of Women Voters which is the League’s chapter for Bedford, Bedford Heights, Oakwood, Walton Hills, and the Bedford City School District. Co-sponsors include the Friends of the Southeast Library and the Bedford Council of PTAs.
Now in its second century, the League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan political organization, encourages the informed and active participation of citizens in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues and influences public policy through education and advocacy.
Election Day is Nov. 2; voter registration ends Oct. 4. Early voting and voting-by-mail can begin on Oct. 5.
