Allows Local Families to Find Help for Anxiety, Depression, Behavioral Problems, Academic Struggles, Developmental Delays or Disabilities

HIGHLAND HILLS, OH — The Eastern Cuyahoga County Resource Fair on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C) Eastern Campus Student Services Building, 4250 Richmond Road, Highland Hills, provides local resources for those 0-22 years who are experiencing anxiety, depression, behavioral problems, academic struggles, developmental delays or disabilities. This is one of the largest resource fairs offered in Northeast Ohio.

According to a Health Policy Institute of Ohio December 2024 study, approximately one in four children, ages 3-17, across the country reported one or more mental, emotional, developmental or behavioral problems in 2021 and 2022.  In Ohio, that same study reports that a fifth (20%) of middle school students and a third (33%) of high school students in 2023 reported that their mental health was not good most or all of the time.

With more than 70 providers, the free Eastern Cuyahoga County Resource Fair offers a number of options for families looking for help. To register, visit https://www.connectingforkids.org/east-cuyahoga-fair or call/text: 440-570-5908.

Families who pre-register and attend the in-person event will be entered to win a $100 Amazon gift card. In addition, the first 100 families who stop by the Connecting for Kids table at the fair will receive a free stuffed animal courtesy of Wild Republic with a disability awareness pin and bookmark. Those who have limited time can drive up to the tent in front of the Tri-C Eastern Campus Student Services Building during fair hours to receive a grab & go bag of resources.

The process of finding help for a struggling child can be overwhelming. Parents and caregivers may not know where to start or what resources they need, so Connecting for Kids will have a table at the entrance of the fair staffed by those who can answer questions, narrow down options and point them in the right direction of the service providers that can help. There will also be a quiet/sensory area that will allow caregivers to take a break, if needed.

Attending a resource fair will actually save time for families in the long run. Rather than having to scour the internet or spend hours making phone calls, the resource fair offers a one-stop shop. Attendees can discuss insurance, services provided and explore program options directly with the provider. Having face-to-face conversations allows families to assess whether a provider is a good fit.

At the fair, families will find help for:

  • Mental Health Concerns – A report by the Annie E. Casey Foundation found that nearly 1 in 8 Ohio kids received a diagnosis of anxiety or depression in 2020, up 42% from 2016 — the 10th-highest increase nationwide. The fair will provide mental health and behavioral health providers.
  • Academic Issues – For students who are struggling, families can find tutors, academic programs, alternative schools and educational advocates.
  • Disabilities & Developmental Delays – Find occupational, physical, speech and music therapists. Also represented will be adapted camps, sports, recreational programs and transition services. Presented in partnership with The Rotary Club of Cleveland. Platinum sponsors of the event include Community Fund Ohio, Cuyahoga Community College, Cuyahoga County Public Library and New Heights ABA.

Other resource fairs offered by Connecting for Kids this spring include:

Vincentian Pathways Informational Session
April 1st 2025
6:00pm-7:00pm
Light of Hearts Villa, 283 Union St., Bedford, OH 44146

A unique opportunity to learn about an inspiring new project is coming to Bedford this spring. The Vincentian Pathways Informational Session has been rescheduled to Tuesday, April 1, from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Light of Hearts Villa, 283 Union St., Bedford, OH 44146. The event was originally set for March 18 but was moved to avoid a conflict with Bedford’s Town Hall meeting on the UH Hospital settlement.

Vincentian Pathways is a transformative initiative dedicated to restoring the historic 8.5 acres of gardens at Light of Hearts Villa and turning them into a public park for the Bedford community. This project honors the legacy of the Sisters who founded Light of Hearts Villa by preserving their mission and creating a welcoming space for generations to enjoy.

Attendees will gain insight into the project’s key goals, including restoring the gardens to their former beauty, developing a serene public space, and ensuring the history of the Sisters lives on. The session will also highlight ways for the community to get involved, whether through volunteering, donations, or advocacy.

This event is a great chance to learn more about the vision behind Vincentian Pathways and how you can contribute to this meaningful effort. Light refreshments will be provided, and while RSVPs are encouraged, they are not required.

Don’t miss this opportunity to be part of a project that will shape Bedford’s future!

CLEVELAND, OH — As reported by Fox 8 News, a police chase that began late Monday night in Bedford Heights ended in a crash and vehicle fire in Cleveland. The pursuit started shortly after 11 p.m. and concluded near East 49th Street and Chard Avenue, where the vehicle being pursued crashed and caught fire.

According to officials, multiple individuals inside the vehicle fled on foot following the crash. Law enforcement from the Cleveland Division of Police and the Cuyahoga Heights Police Department responded to assist in searching the area for those involved. As reported by WKYC Studios, authorities used a drone to help locate the individuals, ultimately finding three people who had been inside the vehicle. However, only the driver was taken into custody.

At this time, authorities have not confirmed whether any additional suspects were taken into custody. Additionally, the circumstances that led to the chase remain unclear. Bedford Heights Police Chief Michael Marotta stated that the pursuit began after an officer observed the vehicle running a red light on Libby Road. When the officer attempted to make a traffic stop, the driver sped off, leading officers onto I-480 westbound at speeds exceeding 100 mph. It is unknown what initially prompted officers to begin the pursuit or if any further charges will be filed as a result of the incident.

The fiery crash added an element of danger to the situation, but no reports have indicated whether anyone was injured. Officials have not provided further details regarding damage caused by the fire or whether emergency crews were required to extinguish it.

According to WKYC Studios, Chief Marotta acknowledged that high-speed chases pose significant risks to public safety. He stated that his department will review the pursuit to ensure that proper protocols were followed and determine whether officers involved require additional training or disciplinary action.

Law enforcement continues to investigate the incident, and additional information may be released as more details become available.

Update (3/13/2025): This article has been updated to include additional details from WKYC Studios, such as Bedford Heights Police Chief Michael Marotta, confirming that the chase began due to a red-light violation. The update also clarifies that three individuals were located after the crash, but only the driver was taken into custody. Additionally, authorities are reviewing the pursuit to ensure proper protocol was followed.
