It’s hard to believe that my 8 years of service as councilman in ward #3 is coming to an end. Some of my accomplishments were getting Bedford high school baseball complex named after long time high school baseball coach Bob Leoffler. I also got the old Interstate playground renamed to Bill Cosgrove park.
Some of my other projects were to get former councilwoman Paula Mizak’s name on a tot lot in her ward. She passed away battling cancer. She was a councilwoman for over 25 years. As a council, we also had the pool house rebuilt at the city pool.
Serving ward #3 was an experience that I enjoyed tremendously. If someone had a problem or issue with something I was always there to help. I made sure of that!
Down the road Bedford is going to go through some big changes. The state of Ohio kids facility will be up and running soon, the old Hospital site is going to be a new look soon, these are going to keep Bedford moving forward, especially with new tax dollars!
Our Police and fire departments are in great hands. Service and recreation are also in good hands. City Manager Mike Mallis is doing a great job. He’s been a great person to work with. He has done so much for me as I grew into the position of a councilman.
It’s going to be hard the next few weeks leaving my colleagues on council. I have been in this city for over 60 years, in the same ward . I am a kid from the neighborhood, I have seen a lot of people come and go. Now it’s my time to go!
Goodbye to the citizens of Bedford, I hope I served you well.
— Councilman Vic Fluharty, Ward 3
