Bedford City Council met on March 16, 2026, for both a work session and regular meeting, addressing a range of operational, development, and infrastructure items.

Council advanced Ordinance No. 016-26, which would authorize a contract with the City of Twinsburg for emergency dispatch services, moving it to second reading.

In zoning matters, council supported the Planning Commission’s decision to deny a group home permit on Charles Street, citing issues with registration and compliance, while approving a food production and research facility on Northfield Road that has secured state and federal approvals.

Several vehicle purchases were approved for city departments, including SUVs and pickup trucks for Service and Parks and Recreation, all of which had been previously budgeted.

Council also passed the city’s first 2026 appropriation ordinance, allocating funds across multiple departments and special funds.

During reports, officials highlighted major ongoing and upcoming projects, including:

  • Planned reconstruction of Solon Road, supported by grant funding
  • Progress on the Connectivity Project, including a pedestrian bridge over Tinkers Creek
  • Approval of a $475,000 NOACA grant to connect Bedford Commons to Viaduct Park
  • Development of a 2026 events calendar, including activities tied to the nation’s 250th anniversary

The Finance Department was also recognized for receiving the Ohio Auditor of State Award with Distinction, an honor awarded to a small percentage of municipalities for excellence in financial reporting.

Additional discussions included a proposed temporary utility rate structure for multi-family renovations, potential sale of city-owned properties, and ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure and neighborhood conditions.

Council concluded the meeting after discussing emergency dispatch services and economic development matters in executive session.
