As reported by Mercy Sackor with News 5, Cleveland Metroparks proudly announced the opening of the Astorhurst Disc Golf Course in Bedford Reservation on Tuesday morning. This new 18-hole, par 65 course is a unique addition, spanning 10,494 yards and featuring tee boxes for amateur, professional, and competitive players.
The Astorhurst Disc Golf Course is the first of its kind within the Cleveland Metroparks system, distinguishing it from the existing nine traditional golf courses. Constructed in-house, the course creatively incorporates the area’s natural elevation changes, rolling hills, and wooded regions, repurposing the landscape of a former golf course into a public park.
Open daily during regular park hours, players are invited to bring their own disc golf discs to enjoy this new recreational facility.
In addition to providing a new recreational opportunity, the preservation of Astorhurst Park plays a crucial role in combating significant water quality issues in Tinker’s Creek. The 30-mile-long creek, the largest tributary of the Cuyahoga River, has faced challenges such as wetland loss, habitat degradation, excess nutrients, and stream bank erosion. The protection of Astorhurst has aided in preserving Tinker’s Creek’s headwater streams and floodplains, positively impacting the watershed that spans four counties and 24 communities.
Cleveland Metroparks continues to demonstrate its commitment to environmental preservation and community recreation through initiatives like the Astorhurst Disc Golf Course.
