This spring marks the beginning of a truly historic season for the Bedford Garden Club — and now is the perfect time to join.

The Bedford Garden Club, the oldest garden club in Ohio, will hold its first meeting of the year on Thursday, March 19, at the Ellenwood Recreation Center. Those interested in becoming members can register beginning at 6:30 p.m., with the meeting starting at 7:00 p.m.

Ohio’s Oldest Garden Club

Founded in 1927, the Bedford Garden Club holds the distinction of being the oldest garden club in the state of Ohio. For nearly a century, members have helped beautify Bedford while building friendships rooted in a shared love of gardening.

In 2027, the Club will celebrate its 100th anniversary — a remarkable milestone that reflects generations of dedication, volunteerism, and civic pride.

Joining this year means becoming part of that centennial celebration and helping shape its next chapter.

What to Expect at the March Meeting

The March 19 meeting will feature speakers from the Bedford Garden Club who will discuss how the Club contributes to the community, including:

  • The popular Bedford Beauties program, which recognizes outstanding local gardens
  • The management and care of several gardens throughout Bedford
  • Volunteer opportunities and ways members support city beautification

Gardeners of all experience levels are welcome — whether you maintain a backyard oasis or simply enjoy flowers and community involvement.

Be Part of the Centennial Year

Becoming a member in 2026 offers a unique opportunity to participate in preparations for the Club’s 100th anniversary next year. It’s a chance to honor the past while helping cultivate the future of one of Bedford’s most enduring civic organizations.
