Bedford’s newest public art piece, Dreaming of Bedford, was officially unveiled on Thursday, August 7, with an evening celebration that brought together community members, local leaders, and art enthusiasts.

Created by local artists Kristin Mitchell and Kathryn Hric, the mural was commissioned and funded by Matchgirl Productions, a nonprofit dedicated to civic projects, community support, and public art. The vibrant work, located on the side of Spirit Apotheosis, serves as a visual celebration of Bedford’s history, diversity, resilience, and imagination. Visitors can even hunt for two hidden Bedford Pookas—a playful nod to local artist Richard Sedlon.

The painting took about a month to complete, following months of planning and collaboration. Spirit Apotheosis was chosen for its highly visible, centrally located wall, offering the perfect backdrop for an engaging, interactive design. The mural invites creativity from passersby, encouraging photo opportunities like “blowing” petals across the scene, posing with the Pookas, or imagining oneself as a faerie among the flowers.

The unveiling event, held from 7 to 9 p.m., featured free food for attendees and music provided by DJ Music in Motion. City leaders in attendance included Mayor Stan Koci, City Manager Mike Mallis, City Council members Sandy Spinks (Ward 1) and Jeff Asbury (Ward 5), as well as City Council candidates Denise Zingale (Ward 1) and Frank Spiker (Ward 3).

Matchgirl Productions hopes this will be the first of many murals they commission to brighten Bedford. Building owners interested in hosting future artwork are encouraged to reach out at hello@matchgirlproductions.org or (440) 862-1890.
