Bedford residents will have an opportunity to learn more about the future of the former University Hospitals Bedford Medical Center property at a Town Hall meeting on March 18 at 6:30 PM at Ellenwood Recreation Center. The meeting aims to provide updates and address community concerns regarding the site’s redevelopment.
During the March 3rd Bedford City Council meeting, City Manager Mike Mallis shared insights into the city’s ongoing efforts to restore healthcare services to the area. He emphasized that the city now holds full control of the property, having secured $2.1 million in funding with no deed restrictions. This allows for flexible redevelopment options, prioritizing healthcare services. However, the current state of the hospital building, impacted by vandalism and flooding, makes demolition likely. The city has already issued a request for proposals (RFP) to healthcare providers to explore feasible options for the site.
Officials are also evaluating other potential uses if healthcare services cannot be re-established. Residents are encouraged to attend the Town Hall to share their input.
