BEDFORD, OH — As reported by Cleveland 19 News, a Bedford Heights woman, Mycal Davis, has been placed in Bedford Municipal Court’s diversion program following child endangering charges related to an incident in February. If Davis completes the program successfully, the charges against her will be dismissed.

The charges stem from an incident on February 4, when Davis left her one-year-old and six-year-old children alone in a running, unlocked vehicle outside the Giant Eagle on Aurora Road in Solon. A passerby noticed the children and notified a store employee, who then contacted police.

When officers arrived, they found the two children unharmed inside the vehicle. Davis was paged over the store’s intercom and exited the building approximately six minutes later. She reportedly told police the children had been asleep when she arrived and that she went in briefly to buy dinner for them.

Fortunately, no harm came to the children during the incident. However, it highlighted growing concerns about child safety in vehicles. According to Kids and Car Safety, there have been 118 cases in the United States in 2024 where children were left unattended in vehicles that were subsequently stolen. In Ohio alone, nine such incidents have occurred this year.

The diversion program provides an opportunity for first-time or low-risk offenders to avoid a criminal record by completing court-mandated requirements. Davis’s participation in the program could ultimately result in the charges being dropped, assuming all conditions are met.
