BEDFORD HEIGHTS, OH — As reported by Michelle Nicks with Cleveland 19 News, a traffic stop in Bedford Heights escalated into a foot chase and gunfire on Friday afternoon, according to Bedford Heights Police Chief Michael Marotta. The incident began around 1:00 PM at the Rockside Park Apartments on Rockside Road when an officer stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation.
The driver fled on foot, prompting the officer to pursue. During the chase, the officer fired shots after indications that the suspect had a gun. Fortunately, no one was injured by the gunfire, though two parked cars were damaged.
The suspect fled into an apartment in building B of the Rockside Park Apartments. Police later apprehended him inside the building without further incident. Neither the officer nor the suspect was injured, and the suspect was not struck by the gunfire.
Detectives are investigating the circumstances of the incident and will work with the prosecutor to determine any charges. This case remains under investigation.
