Living in Bedford, I’ve learned to embrace the beauty of winter. But with winter comes those unexpected snow days when school is canceled, and the kids are home. While these days can be a logistical challenge, they also present a unique opportunity for quality time with my children. Here are some ways you can keep kids happily occupied on snowy days.1. Plan Fun Indoor Activities: Snow days are the perfect excuse for indoor adventures. Get creative with board games, puzzles, and building forts with blankets and cushions. Engaging in imaginative play or having a family movie marathon can turn a snowy day into a memorable one.2. Embrace the Outdoors: If the weather isn’t too harsh, bundle up and head outside for some snowy fun. Building snowmen, having snowball fights, or simply going for a walk in a winter wonderland can be invigorating for both kids and adults.3. Cook Together: Use this time to teach your kids some cooking skills. Baking cookies or making hot cocoa from scratch can be a delicious and educational activity. Plus, it fills the house with a warm and inviting aroma.4. Craft Time: One of our favorite indoor activities is crafting. A simple yet entertaining craft idea is making “Snowflake Window Clings.” All you need is a bottle of white school glue, wax paper, and some glitter. Squeeze snowflake shapes onto the wax paper using the glue, sprinkle on the glitter, and let them dry. Once dry, carefully peel them off and stick them to your windows for a snowy window display.
So, let’s embrace those unexpected snow days as a chance to create special memories with our children. With a bit of planning and a touch of creativity, we can turn these days into cherished moments of family togetherness.
