Sunday, Dec. 2 reports

Time: 10:09 a.m.
Code: Suspicion
Location: Giant Eagle – Bedford
Male would like to speak to an officer about some individuals that appeared to be converging on him from different directions in the parking lot of Giant Eagle after he withdrew money from the ATM. This occurred Friday evening and he thought they were thinking of robbing him and he wanted officers to be aware. Nothing occurred. Male stated he went to Giant Eagle and he noticed three males at the Coinstar machine who then dispersed into the parking lot. After completing his ATM transaction, one of the males who had remained in the store appeared to be following him into the parking lot. Once outside, he observed the other two males converging from different areas of the parking lot going towards where he had parked. At that point, the complainant stated he went to pull his keys from his back pocket and inadvertently flashed the grip of his concealed firearm. He believes the male following him saw the gun and yelled something to the other males, who then turned and walked in opposite directions. The male following him then walked back into the store, so the complainant went back in as well to notify the Sheriff’s deputy who was behind the customer service counter. The incident was not reported to police at the time it occurred, but the complainant would just like officers to know what happened for future reference. Officers reviewed the surveillance footage from Giant Eagle and did see three males on the video, but it appears they were merely using the Coinstar machine. The complainant was not followed out of the store by any of the three males. There also was no point when the males dispersed into the parking lot. They appear to have used the Coinstar machine and taken their receipts from the machine to the customer service desk to be cashed out. They then promptly walked directly to their van and drove away. The complainant is seen walking to the ATM and the three males are standing in close proximity to the Coinstar machine that is adjacent to the ATM. After conducting his business with the ATM, the complainant is seen walking past all three males who were now waiting in line at the customer service desk. He walks directly to his truck, and drives away. At no point does he return to the store to speak with the deputy like he claimed. Officers are unsure of a possible motive to the fabricated story, but no alleged robbery appears to have been thwarted in the parking lot.
