Bedford City Council met on April 20, 2026, addressing storm recovery efforts, infrastructure needs, and several city contracts and grant-related items.
Council approved legislation authorizing the city to apply for 2026 “Special” Community Development Block Grant funds through Cuyahoga County. Officials stated the city plans to pursue funding connected to road resurfacing associated with the Greencroft project, along with other community improvements.
Council also approved contracts for the purchase of six replacement fire hydrants and ultraviolet disinfection bulbs for the Wastewater Treatment Plant. City officials said the hydrants will allow the Water Department to quickly replace damaged units, while the UV bulbs are necessary to meet Ohio EPA requirements at the treatment facility.
Much of the meeting focused on the aftermath of recent severe storms. City officials reported widespread cleanup efforts, including clearing debris from catch basins and assessing roadway and culvert damage, including sinkholes and a partially washed-out roadway. Approximately 70 city vehicles sustained storm-related damage, and city facilities were also being assessed.
Officials also warned residents to be cautious of unregistered contractors and solicitors operating in the city following the storms. Residents were encouraged to verify contractor registration through the city before hiring for repair work.
Council members thanked city service crews, police, fire personnel, and residents for their response and cleanup efforts. Additional updates included upcoming Arbor Day events, the Bedford Historical Society’s Spring Ladies Tea, and continued discussion regarding city boards and commissions appointments.
During the hearing of citizens, residents raised questions about storm-damaged roads, property concerns, and solicitor activity within the city.
Council adjourned the meeting at 7:40 p.m.
