Hello Bedford Residents

It’s unfortunate that we’re all bombarded with annoying spam calls or robo calls. I know that I have probably blocked and deleted someone of great importance or people of importance. Thinking it’s a spam call with no name. So, if you have blocked an important caller. Just know, they cannot contact you. The call will just ring on their end. Nothing we can do about it.

What people are saying about “Spam Calls” that they receive:

– The “Silent Call” Tactic: Receiving a call that’s dead silent or a quick hang up.

– Spoofing: The caller mask their numbers to look local or pretend to be from an insurance company, Social Security Administration of the IRS.

– Rising Tax/Medicare Cons: Seasonal spikes in tax, health insurance, and Medicare scams, they prey on retirees and taxpayers.

How people are dealing with this issue:

– They let the call go to voice mail, ignore unknown numbers, the person will leave a message.

– Never press “To Opt-Out: If a recording says,” Press 2 to be removed,” it flags your number as a responsive, working line leading to more calls.

– Using Carrier Tools & Call Screeners: It’s highly recommended to utilize built-in carrier spam-blocking apps or features like Google Voice’s automated screening which asks callers to state their name.

Just a reminder, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) warns us to never give out personal information, like Social Security numbers or bank account and PIN numbers over the phone.

The world of automation. Stay aware.

Have a good summer.
