I’m here to talk about student writing versus artificial intelligence writing in the classroom. Imperfect human writing is better for students because the act of writing drives critical thinking, self-discovery, and cognitive development that AI cannot duplicate. While artificial intelligence can produce polished, grammatically correct text quickly, it bypasses the mental comprehension required for true learning.
Why Imperfect Human Writing is better for Students
• Writing is thinking: The struggle to put thoughts into words forces students to face gaps in their logic, organize arguments, and refine their own opinions.
• Lower brain activity with AI: Studies show that students who rely on AI for writing tasks exhibit reduced brain activity and produce work that lacks individuality and creativity.
• The value of flaws: An “imperfect” human essay contains a genuine voice, unique lived experiences, and authentic reasoning, whereas AI output relies on statistical word prediction that often feels boring or weak.
• Authentic skill growth: Offloading the struggle of writing robs students of the cognitive resilience they need to solve complex problems and communicate effectively in the real world.
Well, artificial intelligence is good for assistance in writing or providing ideas, but it lacks the human touch in writing for students to learn. As students go on to middle school, high school and college they definitely need to learn writing fundamentals by a teacher.
