August in Bedford can feel like a month caught between two seasons. We’re still enjoying warm summer days, but school routines and the first hints of fall are right around the corner. That makes August a wonderful time to tackle a few cleaning jobs that may have been neglected during the busy summer months.
Start with your bedrooms and closets. Before cooler weather arrives, go through summer clothing and set aside anything that no longer fits, hasn’t been worn, or can be donated. While you’re there, dust closet shelves and vacuum those corners that don’t usually get much attention.
Next, give your washing machine a good cleaning. Between sweaty summer clothes, swimsuits, towels, and bedding, it’s been working hard! Check your manufacturer’s instructions for running a cleaning cycle, and wipe around the door, detergent dispenser, and other areas where residue can collect.
August is also a good month to tackle baseboards and doors. These surfaces quietly collect dust, fingerprints, and scuff marks. A damp microfiber cloth is often all you need to make them look fresh again.
Don’t forget about school and work zones. Clear off desks, wipe down chairs and lamps, sort through old papers, and gather stray pens and supplies. Even households without students can benefit from an organized spot for mail, calendars, and paperwork.
Finally, take a look at your cleaning supplies themselves. Wash reusable cloths, replace worn-out sponges and brushes, and safely dispose of empty containers.
There’s no need to rush into fall just yet, my dears. A simple August reset lets you enjoy these final weeks of summer while preparing your Bedford home for the busier season ahead.
