As reported by Fox 8 News, as Bedford’s summer event season continues, city officials are reminding residents that minors attending events at Bedford Commons must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
The policy, which was introduced last year, was developed through discussions between event organizers, Bedford Police, and city officials following concerns about disruptions caused by unsupervised juveniles at community gatherings.
According to Bedford Police, the goal is not to restrict attendance but to help maintain a welcoming environment for families and visitors. Officials noted that many of the issues observed in previous years involved groups of unsupervised youth blocking sidewalks, disrupting foot traffic, and creating situations that made other attendees uncomfortable.
Police report that the policy proved successful during last year’s festival season, resulting in a noticeable reduction in disruptions and helping create a more enjoyable atmosphere for attendees.
Under the policy, officers may approach minors who appear to be attending an event without an accompanying adult. If a parent or guardian is not present, the minor may be asked to leave the event area.
With the Bedford Historical Society’s Strawberry Festival now complete, officials are emphasizing that the supervision requirement remains in effect for upcoming summer events held at Bedford Commons.
Among the major events still ahead are Liberty Days and the Bedford Rotary Rib Fest, both of which traditionally draw large crowds from throughout the region.
City officials encourage residents and visitors of all ages to attend and enjoy Bedford’s summer celebrations while helping maintain the family-friendly atmosphere that has become a hallmark of the community’s events.
As the season continues, organizers hope the policy will contribute to safe, enjoyable experiences for everyone attending Bedford’s popular summer festivals.
