The Bedford volleyball team took their Maple Heights counterparts to 22-22 in both of the first two sets in Tuesday’s match, but eventually lost those sets 25-23 and 25-22 respectively. The Bearcat girls came roaring back in the third set to win 25-16, helped out by some fine serving and defense from Arion Caroll. They finally succumbed to the Mustangs in the fourth set, 25-15, losing the match 3-1.

Both teams played pretty much evenly throughout. Bedford did an especially good job of getting their serves in play, and digging out the attacks of the other team. They also had some nice blocks. Maple Heights had the edge however in their ability to set up for spikes and delivering kills, so Bedford found themselves back on their heels frequently as they fended off the attacks.

At their previous game on Sept. 1, the Bedford volleyball team gave Cleveland Heights a battle as well, but came out on the short end, 3-2. Bedford’s next varsity match will be against Shaw High School at home on Thursday Sept. 10 at 6:30 p.m. The junior varsity will play the game before at 5:30 p.m.
