If you are accustomed to taking a scenic drive through Bedford Reservation on Gorge Parkway, you may have noticed that the entrance at Dunham Road has been blocked for weeks. And if you have enjoyed time at the Hemlock Creek Picnic Area recently, you may have heard the occasional, unnatural booming sound of heavy machinery breaking the peace of the surroundings.

Road crews have been installing a concrete retaining wall on Gorge Parkway to prevent earth movement from occurring in the future.  The Cleveland Metroparks had been studying the slope between Gorge Parkway and Tinkers Creek just west of Hermit’s Hollow Picnic Area since the summer of 2017, and deemed the wall necessary to maintain the safety of the roadway.

Since this is such a big project, Gorge Parkway is closed from Dunham Road to Hermit’s Hollow Picnic Area to vehicles, pedestrians, horseback riders and bicycles until approximately next month.

A detour to access Hermit’s Hollow Picnic Area is to approach from Gorge Parkway/Overlook Lane intersection.
