Here is the agenda for today’s (5/4/20) City Council Meeting. Due to the directives surrounding COVID-19, the Council will be meeting via Zoom this evening but you will be able to watch the video of both the work session and the regular session at the City’s YouTube page. There were some technical issues last time, but they have been working to get those cleared up so I think this online meeting will go much more smoothly.

The videos are now broadcast live at this URL so if you tune in at 6:15 (work session) and 8pm (regular session), you can watch the Council meeting live: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCBBgBDh11jKNhKtA1NIOZZA

The public will be able to submit any questions, comments or concerns to citymanager@bedfordoh.gov which will be monitored throughout the meeting.  Please feel free to send you questions ahead of time.

Mayor Koci, City Council and the Administration will answer / reply during the public comments portion of the meeting.  Once again, thank you for your cooperation, understanding and partnership during these unprecedented times.

Be sure to SUBSCRIBE to the City of Bedford YouTube channel (big red subscribe button below the video). If you subscribe, you will get a notification when the live video starts as well as getting a link to watch it later.

In the Work Session, we will be discussing:

  • The Memorial Day Parade – We likely will not be able to have a traditional Memorial Day Parade. We are looking at a few options as well as just canceling it. While many communities have chosen to just cancel their complete events schedule for the year, Bedford is looking at alternative ways we can put on these events safely.
  • Summer schedule – Under normal circumstances, Council meets less in the summer months and this is typically when we decide what those dates will be. But with everything that is going on, that may change and we will discuss it tonight.

In the Regular Session, we will be voting on:

  • Authorizing a CRA agreement. APEC will be refurbishing the old YMCA building to be their new headquarters. They would receive a 75% tax exemption in this CRA.
  • Authorizing a contract with Silco Fire & Safety to allow for the installation of a new security camera system around the Municipal Building.
  • Declaring the necessity to improve certain streets by lighting same
  • Proceed with the improvement of certain streets by lighting same – This and the one prior allows the City to make improvements to certain streets in the City
  • Levying special assessments for the improvement of the street and public places. This allows the City to set aside money for this purpose.
  • Levying assessment for garbage/refuse collection, recycling and disposal. This allows the City to set aside money for this purpose.
  • Approving the 2020 Tax Budget.
  • Request County Auditor to advance taxes from tax levy proceeds for 2020 collected in 2021. This is done every year and allows the City to gain early access to money already collected by the County.
  • Voting to help cover part of the cost of resurfacing Forbes Rd by the County.
  • Making additional appropriations – This is done every few months to allow for unexpected expenses and income. In this case, it looks like we received several grants that need to be accounted for in the budget.
  • Purchasing Ferric Cloride, which is used in the Waste Water Treatment Plant
  • Renewing the City’s contract with GPD Group, who consult on various engineering projects.
  • approve or deny the Zoning Board of Appeals decision to accept a variance for 230 Paul St.
