Communication Through Theater Arts – (4 week series)
Thursday, Sept. 16, 23, 30 7:00 p.m.
Explore self-expression and important conversation through a workshop based in Augusto Boal’s Theatre of the Oppressed. Augusto Boal, a theater practitioner, and political activist created Theatre of the Oppressed believing that theatre is a communication and problem-solving tool. Expression through art is a universal language! Boal also believed that Theater of the Oppressed can be used by actors and non-actors alike. In this workshop activities will oscillate between acting exercises, writing activities, and open discussion. During these four weeks we will use Theatre of the Oppressed as a tool for opening our creative minds as well as to discuss important issues that bring us together as humans, instead of pulling us apart because of our differences. This program will be held virtual via Zoom. An email link will be sent out one hour before the start of the program. If you have any questions or trouble logging in, contact the Southeast Branch at 440-439-4997. MUST REGISTER

Klara and the Sun Book Discussion

Join us for a thoughtful discussion of Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro.
From her place in the store that sells artificial friends, Klara — an artificial friend with outstanding observational qualities — watches carefully the behavior of those who come in to browse, and of those who pass in the street outside. She remains hopeful a customer will soon choose her, but when the possibility emerges that her circumstances may change forever, Klara is warned not to invest too much in the promises of humans. In this luminous tale, Klara and the Sun, Nobel Prize winner Kazuo Ishiguro looks at our rapidly changing modern world through the eyes of an unforgettable narrator to explore a fundamental question: what does it mean to love?” This event will be held virtually on Zoom, and a copy of the Zoom link will be sent to registered participants’ emails one hour before the discussion.
