Northfield Road (John’s Deli)
On 11-03-22 at approximately 5:20 pm, a male presented a check in the amount of $650.00. He presented a photo Ohio identification and his cell phone contact. The check was cashed, minus the check fee, and the male left the store. The check was returned to the business “closed account.”  John’s Deli was charged. Due to a system error, the recording video at the store was corrupted.  The detective bureau will mail a 10-day demand letter, and will continue follow up. A male involved in the check-cashing has an extensive criminal history for burglary, assault, criminal trespass, domestic violence, escape, receiving stolen property, forgery, vandalism, theft, and operating a vehicle under the influence and obstruction. He is currently EWW with CCSO for felony weapons offenses and the Elyria Police Department for failing to appear on traffic offenses.

On 11-14-22, another customer presented check in the amount of $589. The transaction was captured by store surveillance. However, the video was accidently lost on the thumb drive. After the check was processed through the store’s business account, it was returned “altered/fictitious” and the business was charged. The business attempted to contact the check-casher by phone and sent a 10-day letter. However, no phone contact could be made, and the letter was returned unclaimed and unable to be forwarded. The suspect has a long history of drug abuse, theft, aggravated robbery, probation violations, receiving stolen property, and is currently EWW with the North Olmsted Police Department for traffic offenses and drug abuse. The detective bureau will follow up.

Industry Drive (Loppolo Concrete Corp.)
On or about 01-12-23, a company passed two checks for $725.44 and $675.44, using the same account through JP Morgan Chase Bank. Both checks were presented for payment of concrete products to complete the lineage logistics project in Oakwood Village. The checks were returned from the bank with non-sufficient funds. The business sent a 10-day demand letter on 01-20-23, and have made numerous attempts to resolve the matter with the check writer. However, all efforts have been met with negative results. Loppolo Concrete extends their appreciation of the police department and it does for the partners in business.

The complainant stated that in December of 2022, Ganley Volkswagen and Enterprise ran her credit report multiple times when she made an inquiry on vehicles. She stated that she advised both businesses to only complete one credit check regarding her inquiry. The complainant just wants information on file.

The business owner for John’s Deli is on station with a customer check returned from his bank as an altered/fictitious item. On 01-09-23, a male arrived in the store to cash a check in the amount of $16,900. The check, was in the name of a law firm in Cleveland. The male presented his photo Ohio identification, and he also provided his cell phone number. After deducting the check fee, the check was cashed and the male counted the money back before leaving the counter. On 01-12-23, the business was notified by his bank and his account was charged. A 10-day demand letter by registered mail was sent to the address provided by the male. Since the transaction was over $10,000., under the existing provision of the law, a currency transaction report was made to the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network.

The female caller stated her boyfriend came over to her apartment tonight and hit her in the face. He was upset with how low her coat was unzipped. She had no visible injuries to her face and did not want to pursue the matter. She will contact the police for an escort when the male is supposed to come and get the couple things he left at her apartment.

A sister and her boyfriend are arguing, and the male has a gun with him. He has not shown it. The caller is a 12-year-old male. The boyfriend is wearing a black Polo jacket and blue and black Adidas pants and struck the female with the gun. He then ran towards Broadway Avenue right before the police arrived.  He is possibly heading to the Warrensville Heights area. The male does not have a cell phone or a car.

A male got an alert that his bank account was used at this gas station twice within the last hour. He thinks it may have been his previous roommate. The amounts of $22.34 and $101.95, both occurred around 8:30 pm. The store employees showed all transactions made at the register and pumps. From the transaction records viewed, there were no matching amounts. There is an ATM in the store that could possibly be the source of the transactions. The male stated he would contact the ATM company for information. The male also stated he would be reporting the fraud to the Macedonia Police Department as he lives there.

Woodrow Avenue (Tavern Off Broadway)
Officers responded to the Tavern Off Broadway for a report of a male assaulting a female outside of the bar. Upon arrival, the female and male were separated and the female stated that the male struck her but would not specify where on her person. The male was difficult to understand due to a speech impediment. The female advised officers that she was not injured, wanted nothing further to do with the incident and elected to go home for the night. Management stated they wanted the male trespassed from the property. He was advised to not return to the bar and was sent on his way. No further police action is needed.

The caller is reporting her car broken into. It is a Camry parked in the driveway. The vehicle was parked at approximately 1830 on 2-17-23. When she returned to her vehicle, she noticed numerous papers strewn over the interior. In checking the vehicle, she noticed a couple of dollars and her gun was missing. The firearm is valued at approximately $319. An addendum was completed and signed. The firearm is to be entered into leads.

The owner of Simon Auto Sales called to report that 23 vehicles have been damaged. The vehicles were scratched down the driver and passenger sides with approximately $20,000 worth of damage done. They are not sure if it is a juvenile TikTok challenge or a disgruntled employee. The dealership is not claiming the damage to the insurance company. They have cameras that they are still trying to access at this time. The officer called an employee by phone that may have done the damage. The owner said it is unlikely, but he was fired this year. There was no answer and they were unable to leave a message. The owner will call the department when they get a copy of the camera footage.

The owner of Auto World wanted to report a former employee that is harassing customers that he sold vehicles to while working there. He calls customers directly and tells them that they owe him another down payment. He has only called two customers at this time. The officer called the subject directly. A voicemail was left for him to call the station. The complainant hopes by having the department calling the suspect, he will just stop calling customers.

An employee advises that he has a rude customer who is refusing to leave. The male told the caller he was going to beat him up. There are no weapons. The male is upset because the employee won’t serve him. The officer advised the male not to return to business.

Ellenwood Avenue (Ellenwood Recreation Center) 
The officer spoke to an employee from the recreation department. He stated that he was driving eastbound on Ellenwood when he observed two juveniles duck behind a black Jeep in the west parking lot. He stated that the juveniles ran off towards Southwick Drive, and he last saw them in the area of 141/147 Eldred Avenue going into the backyards. Officers checked the area, but were unable to locate the juveniles. The officer returned to the recreation department and checked on the Jeep. The passenger side window was partially open and the center console storage lid was in the up position. The officer spoke to the complainant and the recreation staff who were looking at the security video. The security video showed the two juveniles walk up to the Jeep several times and look inside. One juvenile reached into the open window and opened the door. The other juvenile entered the vehicle and then got out as the employee was driving by. The juveniles hid on the passenger side of the Jeep and then ran along the fence towards the pool. They then doubled back to the Jeep. They started to go towards Kenyon Avenue and then returned to the Jeep again with the same juvenile entering the vehicle. They then ran off towards Kenyon again when they saw the employee in the service department truck. Both juveniles left sight of the cameras. It could not be ascertained from the video if anything was taken. The officer attempted to locate a phone number for the owner of the vehicle. In calling the number, it went to voicemail where the mailbox was full and the officer was unable to leave a message.

An employee called to report that two males driving an older model black Dodge Charger came into the showroom. One of the males engaged in a conversation with the store employees, asking questions about the new Chargers on the showroom floor, and where the key fobs were kept. He also asked about the other Chargers on the lot, and what the store hours were this weekend. The other male used his cell phone to video the showroom vehicles and the showroom. The employees were able to obtain a plate, but did not obtain names of either male. The caller would like special attention due to similar activities in the area and other dealerships. The officer in charge was advised.

A caller advises a 12-year-old is driving an SUV towards Northfield Road, towards the post office near Union Street. Both the driver and passenger were under 12 years old. It was a SUV, possibly a Jeep, driving where there’s a sharp bend by the post office. The caller lost track of the vehicle. The officer checked Broadway Avenue over to Northfield Road. The juveniles in the SUV were gone on arrival.

The caller states for the last couple of days she smells something like a dead body in one of the units. Today it is getting worse. She doesn’t know what unit, but it is on the fourth floor as soon as you get off the elevator. Officers found a number and will attempt to contact maintenance. One of the suspected apartments’ door is open, the officers did not find anything at this time.
