Hello Everyone
I just wanted to talk about our city and its events. If you didn’t know. Events are provided in Bedford and surrounding communities to bring about social connection, a feeling of belonging, and support local economies, keeping our money within the community. The event offers spaces for residents to network, access vital resources, and share diverse cultural experiences, which should strengthen a neighborhood’s connection and togetherness.
Local organizations and municipalities host targeted gatherings tailored to various needs in Bedford and surrounding areas:
- Basic Needs & Education: The Cuyahoga County Public Library Bedford Branch provides programs such as the daily Summer Lunch program, which ensures children have access to free meals.
- Support & Well-Being: Support circles, like the Caregiver Release and Restore Circle hosted at the Warrensville Heights Branch, help vulnerable community members connect and recharge.
- Family Engagement: Summer socials, such as the Wild About Learning Summer Social in nearby Parma Heights, offer local family’s activities, food, and opportunities to meet teachers.
- Recreation & Arts: Events like Beachwood Bingo Night at the Beachwood Community Center and the Ohio Collage Society Member Exhibit hosted by the Beachwood Arts Council provide entertainment and cultural enrichment.
Also, did you know that events provide direct and indirect revenue to cities. Events generate municipal funds through sales tax, permits, and hotel/bed taxes. Additionally, events indirectly enrich the local economy by driving business to restaurants, retail shops, and services.
Direct Revenue for the City:
- Permits and Fees: Organizers pay for event license, street closures, and facility rentals.
- Sales Tax: Cities collect a portion of sales taxes from on-site vendor sales, concessions, and tickets
- Bed/Lodging Taxes: Multi-day festivals, tournaments, or conventions boost hotel occupancy, generating lucrative bed tax revenue for the municipality.
Indirect Economic Impacts:
- Small Business Boost: Events drive foot traffic to local merchants and restaurants increasing local business revenue by up to 30%.
- Increased Job Creation: Planning, security, and hospitality require local staffing.
So, events are essential for bringing in revenue to our city/cities. If anyone has an event idea, I suggest you contact our City Manager or our Mayor’s Office.
Enjoy the Summer everyone
Love and Peace
